I am so excited because this is what showed up in my mail today. I ordered the Nicol Sayre bunny box, seam binding and Easter-themed flashcards from One Hundred Wishes. My goodies were nicely packaged in pink tissue and included that yummy lollipop. I love getting fun mail!
We got home yesterday afternoon and I was so excited to sleep in my bed last night. We were in Monterey Friday and Saturday. We had such a great time too. Abby had a fieldtrip to the Aquarium on Friday, so it was an early start (she had to ride the bus and be at school at 6:30 a.m.). We had a nice time at the aquarium, but man-oh-man did we have an AMAZING time exploring the tidepools at Lover's Point. We met our friends, the Mendozas, there for some real hands-on sea exploration. I am such a weinie when it comes to creepy-crawly things, but I kept challenging myself (and my friend Ang) to experience it all. We fed hermit crabs to the sea anenomes, examined starfish, and had a great time exploring each pool we found. AWESOME. The girls were fearless, especially Abby, who would pick up everything living in those tidepools.
After the tidepools, we met up with our friends for dinner at a place they recommended in Moss Landing. It has been featured on Food Network and is so good. If you are along the coast and want great seafood, make the trip to Phil's.
Saturday, we visited the Pacific Grove monarch butterfly sanctuary. The butterflies can be seen there from November to February. We have been to PG so MANY times and never did this. It was nice to do something new. We also shopped at a couple of my favorite stores in downtown PG. I found lots of spring decorations.
We were home Sunday (enough time to do laundry and pack) and left Monday morning again for the coast. On Tuesday, we stopped at the Mission de San Miguel before heading to Paso Robles for the night. I loved taking pictures of the girls there. Awesome old structures with great texture. I recommend a trip to Paso Robles if you are looking for a relaxing destination. Their downtown area is adorable and I hear they have LOTS of wine tasting (if you're into that sort of thing). My first real job out of college was for a winery and I hated the smell. I remember going into the warehouses and forklifts would accidentally break cases open. It stunk so badly. I tried getting a glass at the evening wine and cheese reception at our hotel, and maybe took a half-sip. Yuck. I ate the cheeses instead. ;)
This week has gone by so quickly. The girls go back to school next week for almost four weeks, then they will be off for spring break.
As for scrapbooking, the month of February has been non-productive for me. I have only done 14 pages! Not even 1/10th of what I did in January. In the next couple of weeks, we are going to move the studio/office to another room in our house. We are excited about the change, but it is going to take alot of work. I will keep you posted as we make the transition!
This week has been non-stop. So, I will recap as best I can. I guess I can start with today and work backwards.
Today-Wayne made the traditional pink pancakes for breakfast, got Hailee off to school, distributed Heart Day treats to the ladies in the school office, got Abby to class, worked, dropped by Abby's Valentine party for a bit, had leftover lunch with Wayne, quick grocery shopping trip and a couple of last-minute gift cards, picked up girls, made pink meringue cookies for dessert, made dinner, had candlelight dinner and dessert, gave girls their Valentine's Day treats, ironed all our clothes for tomorrow (early field trip to Monterey with Abby's class), Wayne packed our lunch, and now I am blogging-exhausted. BTW-Mr. King gave me a Sid Dickens tile with a fleur de lis and the word Paris on it as my Heart Day gift. It was accompanied with a letter that promises us a trip to Europe by our 20th wedding anniversary in 2011. SO EXCITED.
Feb 13-At least once a year, I throw the girls a holiday-themed playdate. They each get to invite a friend and we do some activities and I set it up like a mini party. I made a little heart pot/place card for each girl at their seat and they decorated a frame and a cupcake, had dinner, then just played together. So fun. Here are a couple pics from the day. If you are wondering why there is a heart on one of the little girls faces, she doesn't belong to me, so I wouldn't want to post a picture without her family knowing about it. :)
Feb 13-Earlier that day, we went to see Abby in her acting debut as Mr. Tuna. She did such a great job. All of the children did. It was such a cute musical/play. She was the cutest tuna ever!
Feb. 9-Ever wonder about the genetics? How strong they are? Baby Olivia came over for a visit and I took some pictures of her feet. She was born with what some of my family call "the Moya curse." That would be grossly long foot fingers. My girls have them, I have them, some of my cousins have them, and now poor Olivia has them. Now, I must admit that they do come in handy sometimes (picking up things on the floor, etc.) but for the most part they just add inches to our shoe size. So sad.
I made quite a few gift pages last year for Valentine's Day and it seems I have leftovers. All pages have been sewn on and with the exception of the black and red one, all have ribbon and at least three embellishments per page.

First, we are so, so proud of Hailee. She won the city spelling bee for the second year in a row. What makes it sweeter is that she didn't miss any words at all. She rocks! And she is so stinkin' cute too. She asked us last night if she won, would we give her any cash (she has a bit of an eBay monkey on her back). We said that if she won, we wouldn't take away her new boots. ;)
Second, look what the nice UPS man brought me last night! I saw it here first and then went here to order it. They offer a 30 percent discount on all orders. I love those "ker-chunkers." I am going to stamp the back of all my homemade cards or gift pages with it. It takes a few weeks for it to come, so be prepared to wait. I may have to order a return address one for our family.
Third, I have been working on changing the decor in the master bedroom. It has a bit of an Asian feel to it, so it is a very calming environment. I thought what I had in there before was a little too clutter-y. I hate clutter! Now, I have to work on the mountains of laundry that accumulate on the nice Zen bedding!
Among other things, we took time to go to a local park to take Valentine's Day pictures. I took over 250 pictures of the girls. I already sent in my photo order to Costco and have picked up our Valentine's Day cards. Awesome.
So, yesterday as we are driving home from school, Abby casually mentions that she needs to have a costume for Monday's dress rehearsal. She is Tuna in the play. We keep calling her Tina Tuna, but she doesn't get it. When she mentioned she was trying out for said play and then got the role she really wanted, I didn't give the costume thing a whole lot of thought. Afterall, a week or so ago she brought home a paper that said "costume-blue shirt." I figured no problem. She has plenty blue shirts. I moved on.
She then said her costume had to reference a tuna somehow, because (duh) how would the audience know she was a tuna. Hmmmm. How the heck do I reference a tuna on a blue shirt? First thing that came to my mind was photocopy a can of tuna on iron-on paper and iron it on to a blue shirt. Voila! Then I thought that might be in bad taste. When I asked Abby what other kids would be wearing, she mentioned that Shark had a cool costume. My competitive edge got the best of me. I thought to myself, my sweet little Tuna cannot be upstaged by a shark. So, I put "tuna" in the search engine under images and printed out a picture to use as a guide for making a pattern. Let me tell you, there are some very odd images that come up under tuna on the internet. Here is the end result. It has taken a good chunk of the day (off and on) and about $45 in materials, but I think it is pretty cute. I still need to add some spray glitter, as a real tuna is kind of irridescent (and I am girl, and girls like sparkly things).
I plan to also add a little tag on its fin that reads "I'm dolphin-safe". BTW, the other side looks the same as the front.
