I mailed out our Christmas cards yesterday, in hopes that most of our friends and family would receive our card on the first day of December. This is our Christmas card photo. I took it (notice my left hand is balled up holding the remote) on Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove a few weeks ago. This is the first time that Wayne and I are actually in the photo with our girls. I am so happy with the way this photo turned out. It was quite the process.
1. I had this crazy idea of bringing a big chair on the beach for our picture a couple of months ago. Problem is we had no big chair to bring. I surely wasn't about to drag our leather one to the beach. ;)
2. Found a gnarly brown chair at a yard sale for $5. I thought we could do something with it. At this point, hubby is kind of giving me the look.
3. Hubby and I get a workout dismantling this chair. There must have been a million staples. The schrapnel lived in the garage for a few weeks.
4. I find about six yards of this gorgeous green velvety fabric at Joann's for cheap. Like $3 a yard cheap.
5. Hubby and I get started on the chair. Putting it back together was a lot trickier than taking it apart. The biggest problem we faced was that 6 yards of fabric wasn't enough. Oh, and that was a fabric on their clearance table. So, I found a decorator (read: heavy) fabric in a similar color, but different texture. Notice the front panels on each armrest. The cushion and back of the chair are also covered in the same fabric.
6. We finished it in a day. No major injuries. Nice teamwork.
7. The week before we took the pic, Wayne was away on a business trip. Therefore, I had to make all wardrobe decisions. I didn't want to buy too many new pieces and I didn't want us to be too matchy. Just coordinated. Grey, black, and denim worked for us.
8. Of course, it was super sunny in PG the day we went. While waiting for the sun to go down, we took some pics in a patch of forest. Love those pics too. Here are a few of those:
9. The sun was close to setting, so we found a perfect spot on the beach. My sweet husband hauled that chair all the way down to the spot. Yes, people thought we were crazy. I set up the tripod and then we noticed the staring. We were facing the road. The road that was lined up with tons of people waiting to watch the sunset. Apparently, that's a big deal to some. ;) So, while the sun was setting and we were facing the opposite direction, we couldn't help but be a bit self-conscious of our captive audience. lol.
10. I am thinking I want a picture of us in the snow.
